So I called technical support and the technician went through the deactivation process and assured me the 25 digit (alphanumeric) activation code was no longer attached to any account or computer. Please contact Blackmagic support for assistance". I tried and it gave me the following message "There was an error when attempting to perform the activation. He already called Blackmagic Design Support to deactivate his old license and they assured him it was ready to be activated on a new PC. The problem is that even though the software has been deactivated, I can't activate it on my PC. Since he doesn't need two licenses he gave me his older one. He just recently bought a speed editor that came with a copy of DaVinci Resolve Studio in a dongle. He got it when he bought his BMPCC 6k about a year ago. To now say that only new Studio 14 purchases will be honored with a code is a let down.įrom a programming standpoint I don't know if it's a possibility, but for the dongle to work without having to restart your machine would be a huge bonus.So my friend/old employer gifted me his old copy of Resolve studio. So, I guess policy has changed and BM is not willing to do it.īlackmagic did make it sound like all of us with dongles would be able to freely upgrade/trade-in for a serial Activation Code.

Tech Support wrote me that Serial number will be supplied to only new customers of DR 14. I wrote to Tech Support referring to the early announcement on Forum that dongle owner may be able to swap with a serial number. I expect, that BMD will come up with a solution for that.? Thats what my dealer told me,too.thats why I bought a dongle earlier. this is quite confusing, because blackmagic posted earlier, that the dongles can be changed to licence keys when Resolve 14 is released.

Activation license keys will only ship starting from today's release but be sure to specify the activation license key during the transition if that's what you need. I'd even be fine with this de-authorizing my dongle. There really should be a solution where dongle owners can receive an activation code if they choose.
There have been a few occasions where I have forgotten my dongle and therefore had to uninstall Resolve Studio, install the free version just to be able to do some work, and then re-install Studio once I had access to the dongle. Now that the software is no longer just considered a grading tool but is also firmly in the "editing" category, many people like my self are using it primarily on laptops.
